This auction is for 8 large heavy steel energy storage cabinets/enclosures containing trays/racks of aluminum capacitors and aluminum bus work. Also in this auction are 4 IGCT based heavy high power switch units which were used in conjunction with the energy storage enclosures. This equipment was in good working order when it was taken out of service approximately 6 years ago. Each energy storage enclosure weighs approximately 890 pounds. The total weight of this auction lot of 8 cabinets and 4 switch units is approximately 7453 pounds. Detailed descriptions follow below.

  • Energy storage enclosures (890 lbs each, quantity = 8, 36"W x 26"D x 90"H):

The cabinets contain energy storage in the form of electrolytic capacitors with basic grouping consisting of 20 capacitor cans bussed in parallel to form one tray. Each capacitor is 5600uF @350V and each tray contains isolated D.C. Charging power and discharge resistors for the tray. There are a total of 9 trays which can be connected in series or parallel with the other trays to produce additional bank voltage or storage capacity. All D.C. chargers are supplied with charging control and variable AC voltage from the control tray, located at the bottom of each cabinet. Six of the eight enclosures are complete with all 9 capacitor trays and control tray. The seventh enclosure has all 9 capacitor trays but is missing the control tray. The eighth enclosure has only 7 capacitor trays and is also missing the control tray. The approximate weight total of all 8 empty steel enclosure is 2400 lbs. (300 lbs. each). The approximate weight of aluminum for all 8 enclosures within the capacitors plus aluminum bus bar is 1000 lbs.

  • Switch units (185 lbs. each, quantity = 4, 36"W x 26"D x 12"H):

The output switch units at the top of each cabinet are IGCT based high current semiconductor technology which contains all control and snubbing circuitry. Each IGCT can switch up to 3,000A at 4500V hold-off and is controlled by an external gate drive circuit with fiber optic input. The puck RMS rating is 875A and its p/n is DG758 BX45. Maximum switching frequency by the gate driver is ~1KHz. The approximate weight of the heavy copper bus bar in total for all 4 switches is 340 pounds (85 pounds each).
